Message Floats 3,000 Miles

On Dec. 18, 2006 12-year-old Alexus Monds wrote a message and put it in a bottle before tossing them into the ocean while on vacation in Atlantic City. More than a year passed without her giving it much thought. Then one day, Alan Coltart, a park ranger in North Cornwall, England, found the bottle - more than 3,000 miles away.
It could have been mistaken for any other piece of rubbish on the beach, but the water-stained, sun-bleached paper tucked inside a plastic bottle reads ‘congratulations!’
Alexus says “I wrote that if anybody did find this bottle, to contact me. And I wrote my e-mail address and my home address.”
There weren’t many clues to go on as the letter had become so faded. The beach ranger contacted the Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau to ask for help to find the girl named Alexus. Word spread and before you know it the pair were put in touch.
