Top European Clubs Spend £1bn

English football clubs spent more than £530m on players this summer.
The spending spree came as a three-season, £1.7bn, deal for domestic and overseas television rights began plus clubs including Liverpool, Manchester City and West Ham seen large cash injections from rich new owners bolstering the transfer fund kitty.
Twelve top flight clubs spent more than £20m on players. The top three spenders were Manchester United - £51m, Liverpool - £50m and Tottenham Hotspur - £40m.
In Europe Real Madrid were the top spenders with an outlay to about £80m. Overall clubs in the main five European leagues - England, Spain, Italy, France and Germany - spent £1bn
